Baseera Khan is a New York-based visual artist working across public art, sculpture, painting, performance and music. Their practice traces how material and color carry economies of labor, family, religion and spiritual well-being, moving fluidly between disciplines to do so.
Khan is currently included in Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to Now at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York. Recent projects include a solo exhibition with Niru Ratnam Gallery, London, and New Leaf, a permanent public art commission for HELP USA in Brooklyn, New York (2025); in 2023, High Line Art, New York, commissioned Khan’s first large-scale outdoor sculpture, Painful Arc II, Shoulder High. Solo institutional exhibitions include the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C., the Brooklyn Museum, New York, and a touring exhibition organized by the Moody Center for the Arts, Rice University, Houston.
Khan’s work is held in the permanent collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Walker Art Center and the New Orleans Museum of Art. The recipient of the Michael Richards Award for Visual Art (2024) and the UOVO Art Prize (2020), Khan holds an M.F.A. from Cornell University and teaches in the M.F.A. programs at Columbia University and the School of Visual Arts in New York.
