Urška Lončar is a Slovenian fine artist whose practice brings together atmospheric landscape painting, architectural heritage and her academic background in the conservation and restoration of artworks. Working primarily in oils, she creates contemplative landscapes and architectural scenes distinguished by mist, softened light and a quiet sense of timelessness.
Lončar holds a BA in Conservation and Restoration of Artworks from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, as well as a Master in Arts and Cultural Management from Rome Business School in Rome, Italy. This interdisciplinary background shapes her sensitivity to material, history, cultural context and the emotional resonance of place.
Her work has been presented internationally, including the 2026 solo exhibition Where Silence Lingers at ZALIB in Rome, a group exhibition at Medina Art Gallery in Rome, and an earlier solo exhibition of twelve paintings of Slovenian castles at Bled Castle, Slovenia.
Currently based in Slovenia and working internationally across Europe and Australia, Lončar is expanding her practice through exhibitions, commissions, site-responsive projects and collaborations connecting art with heritage, interiors and cultural environments. Across these contexts, her work invites viewers to pause and reconnect with beauty, memory and the natural world.
About the artist
My paintings begin with an atmosphere: mist moving through a forest, light dissolving across a distant landscape, or an old building holding the traces of lives that came before us. I am drawn to places that seem to exist between the visible and the remembered - places where nature, architecture and time quietly meet.
My background in conservation and restoration taught me to look beneath the surface and to understand artworks and historic spaces as carriers of memory. In my painting practice, however, I am not seeking to document a place literally. Through layered oil paint, softened edges, restrained colour and passages of light, I distil it into an emotional experience.
Recurring motifs of forests, mountains, castles and atmospheric skies allow me to explore silence, impermanence, belonging and our relationship with the natural world. Architecture often appears as a human trace within the landscape: vulnerable yet enduring, shaped by time and inseparable from its surroundings.
In a culture defined by speed and constant stimulation, I see painting as a space for attention. My work asks the viewer to slow down, remain with an image and notice what emerges in stillness. Ultimately, I aim to create paintings that feel both intimate and universal - thresholds into memory, reflection and a deeper awareness of the environments we inhabit and inherit.
