In “Brother’s Buddies” Yeung uses her older brother’s toys as her subject and paints them realistically but with her own personal flourishes. She goes beyond the superficial appearance of these objects own reality in order to construct a brightly coloured fiction. What catches the eye is not the same as what is being depicted; the toys may ostensibly be her primary focus but it is the way that they have been rendered in paint that is the true strength of the work.
