"Devotional Journey," delves into the profound theme of the Tibetan people's rituals and their contemplative nature. Tang employs colours that echo the rural and nostalgic feeling, mirroring the profoundness of the subject matter. His landscape paintings are particularly lovely, each brushstroke capturing the beauty and serenity of nature in a way that transports the viewer to the scene.
(On the way to Tibet, you often encounter Tibetan people who are walking and praying. This phenomenon is called "pilgrimage". Why do they keep kowtowing like this all the way? This is an act of faith among Tibetans. Because they are pious enough, no matter how far they are from home to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, they start from home and bow three steps at a time until they arrive at the Potala Palace in Lhasa. To get to their sacred Buddha, in order to receive baptism and blessings for their body and mind, they braved the wind and rain, the cold and the scorching sun along the way. Every pilgrimage is almost like moving the whole family. They will bring all the necessary food, pots and pans, beds, stools, tents, etc. along the way. They will eat on time and on the spot wherever it gets dark. Pitch the tent and continue on the road at dawn. The middle-aged men pushing the carts would not keep pushing the carts. They would stop and walk back every few kilometers to make up for the carts along the way. A pilgrimage lasts for as little as ten days and a half, and as long as one or two years. By the end of the pilgrimage, thick calluses have formed on their foreheads and knees. This is a pious journey for Tibetan people for their faith.)
