Yin Lu’s artwork "Five of Spades—Year of the Snake," is part of her ongoing 54 YINFINITE art series. In this art piece, Yin incorporates rich symbolism and mythology to celebrate the connection between identity and transformation. Spades, the highest suit in the bridge, signify aspiration and prominence. The "five" represents the five elements (Wuxing) in Chinese philosophy and 2025, the year this piece anticipates. The central creature—a dragon transitioning into a snake—evokes the continuity of the zodiac years, seamlessly linking the Year of the Dragon (2024) to the Year of the Snake (2025). This connection illustrates renewal, resilience and growth. The vibrant palette of red and yellow draws inspiration from the Chinese flag, representing fortune, vitality and rising spirits. Traditional motifs, such as Chinese calligraphy for “snake,” “five,” and “2025,” intertwine in the painting with folklore-inspired clouds, flowers and wood elements. This piece is more than art—it’s a narrative of identity, transition and cultural pride, reflecting Yin Lu's journey as an artist born in China and thriving in Australia.
