Rather than freeze a single moment in time, Maluleke lets the market pulse and sprawl across the surface. The mat assumes the role of ledger—each warp and weft a notation, each color an echo of human presence. "Grocery II" reminds us of the beauty and fragility of exchange at its most elemental.
Larger and more exuberant in its weaving, "Grocery II" continues the exploration of market life but pushes further into abstraction. Here, tangled lines and shifting hues evoke the invisible hands and flows that structure communal survival. The work captures not only the bustle and negotiation of commerce, but also its quieter undercurrents: anticipation, longing, the tracing of hope across each daybreak.
