This painting shows penguins perching on some fragile ice out in the Antarctic with a brewing storm looming in the distance. However, it is interpreted as a stop motion of one penguin making an escape and jumping into the sea for temporary refuge from the storm, a representation of the destructive tide of man-made horrors that have ravaged their species and their sources of sustenance. Using a rather monotone palette with the focus on the small penguin on top the ice making a getaway, the lone penguin is highlighted from the landscape. It serves as reminder of the hidden dark side that is the Anthropocene, the duality of humanity dominating the Earth that we so championed about its glory in the last quarter of the two millenniums, in which we wiped out most forms of diversity as a means of prove to our god-like status.
