JUM's piece blends symbolic, decorative, and surreal motifs, creating a mesmerizing visual experience. The central mask-like figure suggests themes of identity, ritual, and the subconscious, while the undulating forms and vibrant colors imbue the work with a palpable sense of energy and emotional resonance. The artist's masterful use of line, shape, and color results in a compelling synthesis of the geometric and the organic. This piece stands as a powerful example of JUM's distinctive artistic vision, one that invites the viewer to engage with the work on multiple levels of interpretation.
This work is part of JUM's series "Offerings to the Storm." In this series, she explores the stages of a storm in correlation with her own experiences and struggles with mental health. JUM aimed to not only work through a difficult time, but also bring awareness to the nonlinear path of mental health. The artist printed illustrations on canvas and added hand embroidery, representing the ups, downs, and gray areas often not discussed when dealing with mental health challenges.
