I discovered an intrinsic talent in creating mezzotint prints in this my first attempt. This small mezzotint acknowledged my keenness in exploring the relationships between printmaking, drawing, and painting. I was inspired by the ancient Arcadian deity Pan, the God of wilderness and nature. However, I adhered to my practice of destroying the human part of the imagery, and instead replaced it with a wild animal, a tiger. This will become a self-portrait mirror image of myself. The subtle appearance from the darkness surrounding the creature hinted at its near extinction, much like nature continuing to diminish from the Earth under our dominance. Yet we are never independent of its omnipresence despite its invisibility, and one day, the land dead Pan will revive Himself again and come back to re-establish its dominion; thus then we will feel its recovering wrath.
