In “Shura Field” the artist began with a loose underpainting in various shades of blue and then applied broad swathes of green and yellow and pink using a palette knife. When these layers were dry he attacked the canvas with a welter of slashing marks in white and pink in all directions. It conveys a sense of violent agitation.
