"In 'Sydney,' Ghanem Hassan masterfully channels the pulse of the metropolis through a language of abstraction that is both systematic and intuitive. Conceived during the Artbridger residency and showcased in 'The True Value of Art,' the work exemplifies Ghanem's ability to translate the sensory overload of city life into a complex visual tapestry. The repeated motifs and vibrant palette evoke the ceaseless motion and diversity of Sydney, while the mandala form anchors the viewer, offering a meditative space amid the urban cacophony.
"Sydney" is a vibrant exploration of urban rhythm and psychological mapping, created by Ghanem Hassan during Artbridger’s residency at Soho House. The composition is structured through an intricate lattice of intersecting lines, dots, and grids, evoking both the architectural dynamism and multicultural vibrancy of its namesake city. Hassan’s deft layering of saturated pigments-ranging from electric greens and yellows to earthy reds and blues-generates a pulsating visual energy that oscillates between order and chaos. The lower right quadrant features a mandala-like motif, suggesting a contemplative counterpoint to the surrounding density and a moment of introspective calm within the urban flux. Through this synthesis of pattern and improvisation, "Sydney" becomes an abstract cartography of place and psyche, inviting viewers to navigate the interplay between external environment and internal experience.
