"In 'The healing wound,' Ghanem confronts us with the shared reality of our woundedness-a state not of weakness, but of profound humanity. This work resonates deeply with Artbridger’s ethos: art as a bridge between private introspection and public discourse, between the individual and the collective. Ghanem’s handling of materiality-at once delicate and assertive-mirrors the psychological processes of healing, wherein the ego is both challenged and soothed. The wound here is not merely a metaphor for suffering, but a generative space: a site where empathy, resilience, and transformation are cultivated. In the context of the residency at Soho House and its unveiling at Art Central, 'The healing wound' becomes emblematic of the journey we all undertake-marked by pain, yet propelled by the possibility of renewal. As curator, I am compelled by Ghanem’s ability to universalize the personal, inviting us to recognize that our fragility is not a deficit, but a source of connection and creative evolution. Through this piece, we are reminded that to be wounded is to be human, and to heal is to become more fully ourselves.
Created during Artbridger’s intensive eight-week residency at Soho House, Ghanem’s "The healing wound" is a profound meditation on the universality of human vulnerability and resilience. The work, realized in a single, uninterrupted session, channels the energy and urgency of the artist’s creative process into a tactile, layered composition. A central fissure-raw yet luminous-anchors the canvas, evoking both the pain of rupture and the possibility of repair. Ghanem’s nuanced use of texture and color articulates the stratified nature of memory and psychic trauma, while gestural marks suggest the ongoing, cyclical process of healing. Conceived for and exhibited in "The True Value of Art," the piece embodies the spirit of the residency: a space for artistic risk, growth, and collective dialogue. Its subsequent display at Art Central 2025 positions it within a broader conversation about the evolving role of art as a site for empathy, transformation, and shared humanity.
