Hong Kong trams are an iconic part of the visual tapestry of Hong Kong. Locals and visitors alike are enamoured of their lurching progress as they make their way through the chasms of the street. They offer users, especially those seated upstairs at the front, with deep perspective views, and a myriad of tiny details. Crosbie works with both to make a nicely nuanced, finely balanced composition.
My aim with this artwork was to try and capture the beauty of an everyday modern Hong Kong street scene, with all it’s local characteristics and bustling activity. This scene along Johnston Road in Wan Chai district is one such example of a fascinating perspective view that is full of wonderful iconic details that are unique to Hong Kong, as well as showing the contrasts between high rise living and life at ground level.
