In Li Hongcheng’s practice, existence is not declared as a conclusion. It is revealed through traces that unfold slowly. Time is not treated as an abstraction either. It appears as a record carried by matter itself.
The Weight of the Hidden and Sunken invites viewers into a restrained tension. Tea is not simply colour or aroma here. It becomes a medium through which duration condenses and residual energy lingers. It settles into the fibres of the canvas and remains visible on the surface as a gentle, steady weight.
Li Hongcheng lives and works between Guangzhou and Macau. With tea as his primary medium, his practice develops through immersion, dripping, and waiting. Natural material transformation remains integral to the work’s formation, as he continues to explore the boundary between painting and experimental ink.
The exhibition presents more than ten works and approaches the image as a vessel of time. Layered tea tones accumulate with patience, recalling the textures of sediment. Each surface registers breathing, pauses, and becoming, leaving a presence that is quiet and enduring.
