About the artist
Experience the profound artistry of Fumani Maluleke as he transforms traditional reed mats, known as Xitheve, into vivid narratives of rural life, land, and cultural memory. This solo exhibition celebrates the intimate relationship between the land and its people through handcrafted straw mats that serve both as canvas and cultural symbol. Maluleke’s work is a collaboration with ancestral knowledge, imparted to him by grandmothers, whose stories and symbolism breathe life into every piece.
