About the Collection
Lourdes Navarro
Artist
Lourdes Navarro
Lourdes Navarro is an artist currently based in Bogota holding a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Los Andes, Bogota. Lourdes uses the forms of abstract and figurative painting to rewrite worlds. Her visual language blends Andean landscapes, lived experiences, and oneiric transfigurations. She works in an abstract and figurative expressionist style to create a visual dream journal filled with ephemeral figures, symbols, and illogical narratives. She uses her coded visual lexicon to explore emotions and thoughts that are manifested through the different ways of doing things. Lourdes has showcased her work in several exhibitions, including "DOPAMINE HOLIDAY" at the Winners Gallery in Beijing, China, "Something more than line, extended drawing" at the Adrián Ibáñez Gallery in Bogota, and "Early Abysses" at Casa4 Arte, also in Bogota. Her artistic achievements have been recognized with various grants and awards, such as the Spaces of Peace award from the Mayoralty of Bogota. She has also been featured in publications like "Colombia Tropical" at El Estacionamiento: Museo del banco de la república and ""Espejo retrovisor: el viaje atávico moderno"" published by IDARTES. Lourdes Navarro's unique artistic approach combines abstract and figurative elements, resulting in captivating visual narratives that invite viewers to explore new worlds of imagination and emotion.
About the Collection
Bart Kok
Artist
Bart Kok
Born in 1985, Bart Kok is a Dutch artist who resides and works in his hometown of Lochem. He actively addresses the act of paining in his works, influenced by the landscapes of Gustav Klimt, the colour tones of van Gogh and the bold tones featured in Fauvist works. He applies bright colours of brushstrokes onto the canvas, creating fantastical, imaginary realms that evoke contrasting themes such as life and death, tranquillity and chaos, as well as happiness and melancholy. Bart Kok has also garnered recognition through prestigious awards and residencies, such as being an Artist in Residence at Grenswerk Tripkau in Germany in 2019, obtaining the Mondrian Funds Stipendium for Emerging Artists in 2017, and obtaining the Koninklijke Prijs Voor Vrije Schilderkunst (Royal Award for Painting) and the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Beurs (Prince Bernhard Cultural Fund Scholarship) in 2016. These honors not only validate his artistic abilities but also provide support for his ongoing artistic journey. Bart Kok's captivating artworks have been showcased in various exhibitions, both nationally and internationally. Notable exhibitions include "An Acorn Fell On My Head" at Gallery SENS in Hong Kong, "Never a dull little stroll" at Altus Holland Fine Arts in Amsterdam, and ""OEOEartcall"" at Tiniminiroom in Dordrecht.
About the Collection
David Surman
Artist
David Surman
David Surman (b. 1981) is a British artist based in London. He graduated from the animation program at Newport Film School in 2002 and completed his postgraduate degree in film studies at Warwick University. He has participated in multiple exhibitions, including "Sleepless Moon" at Gallery THEO in Seoul in 2024 and "Portraits of a Wild Family" at Sens Gallery in Hong Kong in 2022. Surman's quiet yet spirited creatures reflect his animation training, contributing to the fluidity of his narratives and the dynamism of his characters. Inspired by Miyazaki and Yoshitomo Nara, Surman's paintings use an innocent style to convey nuanced, human stories. Animals in his work are depicted as complex beings: affectionate and lively, yet at times surrounded by mystery or solitude, even attempting to escape from the canvas. The layers in his paintings draw viewers in, challenging them to explore the multiplicity of Surman’s world.
