Acrylic, gesso and metal hardware on wood
Series: Luxury Cartons Created as a criticism of the marketing strategies employed by luxury brands and tobacco companies, the artwork draws inspiration from the iconic packaging of luxury goods and cigarettes to question the rampant consumerism and the addictive nature of such. By juxtaposing warning labels seen on the pack- aging of cigarettes with the artistically rendered packaging of luxury goods in the artwork, Leung challenges the government’s hostile approach to banning smoking, and their lack of monitoring of careless consumption. Through this artwork, Leung encourages viewers to reflect on the forces that manipulate their consumption habits and how their consumption patterns would affect themselves and the world around them.
