"A Fling” is a group of three works made by the artist for 2023 CUHK MA Year 1 exhibition. Each of these still life paintings extract and juxtapose various objects from some of her favourite films. These works are a visual equivalent of the practice of free association developed by Freud as a way of accessing the subconscious.
“Marianne told Ferdinand a complicated story.”“She’s no difference from a can of pineapples.”“They were happy here, for a little while.” Objects extracted from different movie scenes to which I once felt emotionally attracted were re-enacted in three separate still life paintings. They may not addup – but this is a story to be felt.
