This diptych is a meditation on contrast and continuity. The left side holds onto mystery, depth, an almost cosmic quality, while the right breaks open into something more tangible—an environment, a passageway, a moment of arrival. Ting’s use of acrylic on canvas allows for a rich interplay of opacity and translucency, layering pigments to create both depth and luminescence. The interplay between obscurity and illumination is not a battle but a process, a quiet assertion that light always finds its way through. There’s a rhythm to this piece, a movement from the unknown into clarity, rendered with both precision and restraint.
Shine Through the Darkness Series (曙光乍現) Mediha Ting’s Darkness to Light (黑暗奔向光明), acrylic on canvas, presents a striking duality—two panels, two dimensions of light, one unfolding narrative. On the left, darkness dominates, but it is porous, textured with hints of violet, green, and gold. Light cuts through in beams, subtle but insistent. The right panel, by contrast, is awash with warmth—golden hues dissolve into orange and soft greens, as if light has fully arrived. Patterns emerge beneath the surface, ghostlike yet intentional, recalling the layered histories of place and memory. The work suggests transition, not just between light and dark but between states of being, between what is hidden and what is revealed.
