In “Misfits in Harmony 3”, Pang employs a fuller-waisted hourglass figure bounded in white as his central motif with blocks of black on the diagonal bounding it in and keeping it in the background. Lines and geometric shapes in gold and red animate the surface. The body of the work employs his familiar obsessive mark-making but his tight control over the overall structure makes this, in the words of Kandinsky, a composition in which reason, consciousness and purpose play an overwhelming part in the expression of an inner feeling.
