The proverb “two’s company, three's a crowd” entered the English language hundreds of years ago but its meaning, alluding to the intrusion of a third person spoiling the intimacy of a pair of lovers is of no doubt as old as life itself. This artwork shows a third bird with its glossy black back turned to us as the odd one out.
