About
this Artwork
Banquet Roulette depicts a wedding and a funeral side by side, with a mischiveous entity that traverses both worlds. Two occasions of extreme emotions, one of happiness and vibrance and one of misery and mourning. One element linking both events - the bouquet of flora. The mischievous one, loitering around the graveyard for a while here a powerful figure's funeral is being held, suddenly grab the bouquet of flowers on top the coffin, throws it into the air. An attraction of wedding-goers on the other side was mesmerised by the incoming, rushed forward to attempt to catch it, to become the lucky one, to be blessed by the wedded. The bouquet has become a symbol of chance. Like a dice it is the centre of gambling. In this piece it ties to the humans' frequency of 'dicing or gambling with the devil' through countless intentional attempts and ambitions to conquer all. Yet, when one wants more, they always forget that in turn they are actually losing more, and that will be the downfall.
